How to Use Rapaport MarketIQ

A step-by-step guide to the five MarketIQ views: track price trends, monitor supply and demand, and compare global markets.

Written by Philippa Corrick

Rapaport MarketIQ is split into five views, each answering a different market question: where are prices heading, how much stock is out there, what are buyers looking for, and how do markets compare? This guide walks you through each one so you can turn live Rapaport Trade data into better pricing and buying decisions.

Price & Trends: see where prices are moving

Use this view to compare average prices with the Top 10% most competitive prices by color and clarity, and see how they've changed over time.

  1. Use the filters on the left to choose a Shape, Size and Comparison Date. Data goes back to January 2025.

  2. Read the top tables for current discounts and price per carat.

  3. Read the bottom tables for the percentage and dollar change since your comparison date. Green means prices have risen, red means they've fallen.

Tip: Use the toggle at the top to switch between 10% Price and Avg Price.

  • 10% Price is the average of the cheapest 10% of diamonds in a category: the market floor. It suits dealers and manufacturers who want to stay highly competitive.

  • Avg Price gives a broader view of the whole market, and works better for qualities with wide price variation, such as SIs.

Graphs: spot the story behind the numbers

  1. Click the graph icon at the top.

  2. Select colors and clarities to update the graph.

  3. Overlay two measures, such as Supply vs. Price. If prices are falling while supply rises, oversupply is the likely cause.

Supply and Demand: get ahead of price shifts

These two views show how much is on the market and what buyers want, which often tells you where prices are heading next.

Supply

The total number of diamonds listed on Rapaport Trade in your category. If supply is rising fast, prices may soften. Use the percentage change tables to see which categories are becoming overstocked.

Demand

The most-searched color and clarity combinations. Use it to spot in-demand goods before you buy or manufacture.

Countries: compare global markets

Put two trading hubs side by side to see where a shape is cheaper, dearer or in short supply.

  1. Select two countries to compare. You can choose from the US, India and Dubai.

  2. Read the bottom table for the percentage difference between them.

Reading the difference: If the US shows +20% against India for a category, the US is 20% more expensive. An inventory figure of -50% means the first country has half as many diamonds as the second.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Why can't I see my exact size?

MarketIQ uses fixed size categories (for example 1.00–1.49 ct) to keep the benchmarks consistent and reliable.

How often does the data change?

Price and inventory update daily. Search demand updates monthly.

Why is a graph empty?

Check that your shape and size filters match a category with trading activity for the dates you've chosen.

What does "Market Share" mean in Demand?

It's the percentage of all Rapaport Trade searches that fall into a category. If D–F, IF–VVS has a 30% share, nearly a third of buyers are looking for top-quality goods.

Should I use 10% Price or Avg Price?

Use 10% Price if you need the market floor and want to be among the most competitive sellers. Use Avg Price for a broad view of the whole market, especially for qualities with wide price variation such as SIs.
