RAPI & RDI Index Explained
RAPI (Rapaport Trade Diamond Index)
What it is: Reflects actual asking prices on Rapaport Trade.
How it's calculated: Based on the 10 best-priced GIA-graded diamonds (Rounds, D-H, IF-VS2, Spec 2 or better) in the top 25 highest categories.
Sizes covered: 0.30ct, 0.50ct, 0.70ct, 1.00ct, 2.00ct, and 3.00ct. The primary index defaults to the 1.00ct size.
Frequency: Published daily on Rapaport Trade and in TradeWire.
RDI (Rapaport Diamond Index)
What it is: An average of the top 25 categories from the Rapaport Price List (D IF – H VS2).
Sizes covered: Typically references 1.00ct but can be calculated for other sizes.
Frequency: Not published regularly.
Valuing Diamonds Outside Standard List Ranges
Very Small Diamonds (<0.15ct)
These sizes are not typically listed or graded. Use the closest Price List category as a baseline guideline and apply appropriate discounts. You can also compare active, similar items on Rapaport Trade or consult with experienced appraisers.
Very Large Diamonds (>10.99ct)
Due to extreme rarity, there is no standard Rapaport Price List for these sizes. Valuations should be based on recent auction results, active market competition, or custom Rapaport Trade listings.
Below the Color Scale (Below N Color)
There is no official price for diamonds below N color on the standard sheets. Traders often use the price for N color as a baseline and adjust the discount downward accordingly
