Every deal conversation has a negotiation panel where you and the other side move the price back and forth. Each change is recorded, so you can always see who changed what and when.
How it works
Open the negotiation
Open the deal conversation in Chats & Trades. On web, choose the Negotiate Offer tab in the panel on the right. On mobile, choose Continue Offer Negotiation.
Send your price
Review the other side's price and My Price, shown as RAP%, $/Ct and $Total. Enter your price and choose Send My Price. The panel shows that you're waiting for the other side, and the update appears in the conversation.
Check the terms and the history
Open Terms to review payment, shipping and trading terms. Only the seller can choose Edit terms. Open Activity Log to see every change, who made it and when.
Agree to the offer
Choose Agree to Offer, check the total and terms in the confirmation, then confirm. You can go back to negotiating instead. If the other side hasn't agreed yet, the panel shows that you're waiting for them. When both sides have agreed, the conversation shows Offer Agreed and stays open.
Good to know: agreeing isn't a contract. Either side can cancel afterward, and the deal returns to negotiating.
Deals with several items
When a buyer starts a deal for several items from one seller, the items are negotiated together as one deal.
The conversation list shows the number of items, for example 2 items, and each item appears as a card in the conversation. Select a card to see that item in full.
Item Details shows the deal as a whole: # items, Stock #s, Total $, Total Carats, Shipping and Status. Under All Items, each stone is listed with its own details, price, lot number and stock number.
Choose Copy All next to Stock #s to copy every stock number in the deal at once.
You negotiate the total only. When the price changes, only the deal total updates. Each item's own $/ct, RAP% and total stay as they were listed.
Why doesn't my updated listing price appear in the deal?
Once a deal starts, the price is locked in at the price listed on Rapaport Trade when the offer was made. Changing your listing afterward doesn't change the deal. To offer a new price in a deal, send it from the Negotiate Offer tab as described above. This lets you price each deal separately without touching your public listing.
Good to know: RAP% is always calculated from the current Rapaport Price List. If the price list changes during your negotiation, your $/ct offer stays the same and the RAP% changes to match. See Rapaport Price List & Pricing Tools for more.
Cancel or archive
Cancel a deal
Open the conversation menu (the three dots at the top of the conversation) and choose Cancel offer, then confirm. Both sides see the deal as cancelled, with a note naming who cancelled. There's no undo on mobile, so check before you confirm. A cancelled deal can't be reopened, so start a new offer from the listing.
Archived conversations
Archiving keeps finished conversations out of your main list. On web, select the archive icon at the end of the filter row, after All and Unread. On All and Chats it shows your archived chats. On Buy and Sell it shows Archived Trades, where cancelled and archived deals sit together. Select the icon again to go back. On mobile, swipe a chat row left to archive it.
You can unarchive a chat from its menu. An archived deal can't be restored.
Cancelled deals go straight to Archived Trades. Other deals are archived automatically 60 days after their last activity, once they're closed. See Managing Trades in Chats & Trades for how expiry and closing work.
Good to know
Older conversations may not show every figure. They show what they have.
On mobile, once an offer is active, the chat box on the item page changes to a button that takes you back to the offer.
The Rapaport Trade apps don't have the new Chats & Trades design yet, so some mobile screens and buttons look different from web. We'll update this article when they change.
