Rapaport Trade (formerly RapNet) Buy Requests: Post, Manage & Respond

How to post, manage and respond to Buy Requests on the Rapaport Trade website, for buyers and sellers

Written by Philippa Corrick

Buy Requests let buyers post the diamond they're looking for and get matched with diamonds listed on Rapaport Trade, and let sellers respond to what buyers want right now. This guide shows you how to post, manage, respond to and chat about Buy Requests on the website, whether you're buying or selling.

New to Buy Requests? Start with Introduction to Buy Requests. Using the app? See Manage Buy Requests on the App.

For buyers: post and manage your Buy Requests

You can post three types of Buy Request:

  • Public: visible to all Rapaport Trade members. Responders see your company name.

  • Private: only you see this request. You're notified when matches are found.

  • Anonymous: a public request, but your company name stays hidden.

Post a Buy Request

  1. Go to All Buy Requests and click + New Buy Request.

  2. Choose the request type and set your notification preferences.

  3. Fill in the diamond details. Shape, Size, Color and Location are mandatory.

  4. Add any comments or location preferences.

  5. Click Save.

Rapaport Trade instantly shows you a list of matching diamonds available on Rapaport Trade, and notifies or emails you when sellers respond to your Buy Request.

Good to know: If your request is too broad, auto-matching notifications may be disabled.

Get diamond matches

Rapaport Trade notifies you when diamonds match your request:

  • View up to 50 updated diamonds from sellers.

  • New matching diamonds keep being added to the request.

  • Sellers may also respond to your request themselves.

You can also add diamonds to a request from the search results:

  1. Hover over a Buy Request and click the search icon.

  2. Select diamonds, click the list icon, choose the request and click Add.

Diamonds you've already rejected or that were already suggested won't be sent again.

Manage and renew your Buy Requests

  1. Go to My Buy Requests.

  2. Filter by requests with suggestions or responses.

  3. Click a Buy Request to view matching diamonds, contact sellers, reject diamonds or add them to a list.

From the request, you can also view seller responses and chat with sellers.

For sellers: respond to Buy Requests

Find Buy Requests to sell more diamonds

There are three ways to find matching Buy Requests:

  1. Get Rapaport Trade notifications or emails when your inventory matches a request.

  2. Use the filters to find requests you've responded to, or requests that match your inventory.

You can respond even if your inventory doesn't match perfectly. Just send a message.

Respond and suggest diamonds

  1. Hover over a request and click the Respond icon, or click the Buy Request and click Respond.

  2. Suggest matching diamonds or send a message.

Responding to a Buy Request by suggesting matching diamonds

Even if you don't have inventory listed on Rapaport Trade, you can still respond to the buyer by typing a chat message.

You can also send a pre-made Rapaport Trade List.

Good to know: Once you suggest a diamond, it's removed from your suggestion list for that request. You can update your response later. On anonymous requests, you won't see the buyer's name unless a trade is created.

Track your responses

  1. Use the filters to see requests you've already responded to, or requests that match your inventory.

Rapaport Trade tags each Buy Request with your response date, so you always know when you replied.

Buy Request chats

  • A chat opens when you or the other member replies with a message.

  • Chats appear on your homepage under Latest Chats.

  • Click a chat to open the Buy Request and continue the conversation there.

Good to know: Buy Request chats aren't in Chats & Trades. They're routed to the request page, where you can keep chatting. Once a chat has started, the original message can't be edited.
