Buy diamonds on Rapaport Trade (formerly RapNet) safely and securely

How to move forward with buying a diamond: contact the seller through Chats & Trades and negotiate your price safely

Written by Philippa Corrick

The safest way to buy a diamond on Rapaport Trade is to contact the seller, negotiate and agree the deal in Chats & Trades, not by email. This article explains why, and how to do it.

Why trade inside Rapaport Trade

Email isn't secure. Members have lost thousands, and sometimes tens of thousands, of dollars because thieves intercepted their emails.

Chats & Trades is a safer alternative. Use it to contact buyers and sellers, negotiate and agree a deal, all inside Rapaport Trade. Messages arrive in real time on the website and in the app.

Contact the seller and agree a deal

  1. Once you've found the diamond you want, click Contact Seller on the item page. The opening message is pre-filled, and you can edit it before you send.

  2. The conversation opens in Chats & Trades, with the stone already attached. The seller is notified and replies in the same conversation.

  3. Negotiate the price in the Negotiate Offer tab. In the app, choose Continue Offer Negotiation.

  4. When you've both agreed on the price and terms, choose Agree to Offer and confirm.

Before you pay: check the seller's profile, make sure the grading report matches the stone, and confirm payment details by phone before you wire any money. See Safe Trading on Rapaport Trade for the full checklist.
